SUMMARY:Fall Protection (ARTBA)
DESCRIPTION:This course\, which is presented as a two-part webinar series\, is provided through the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA). This multi-faceted program is supported by the Department of Labor and provides training to help protect workers against falls\, especially in roadway construction. Falls are the second-leading cause of death in the transportation construction industry\, behind runovers and backovers. \nThe course includes discussion and information about: horizontal life lines; swing fall hazards; anchorage points; fall prevention ensemble components and selection; self-retracting lifelines; aerial work platforms; rescue and suspension trauma; mounting and dismounting equipment; and walking and working surfaces. \nPart 1 of 2: August 11 – 10:00am to 12:00pm (Noon) EDT\nRegistration: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/144099103856989454\n• Part 2 of 2: August 12 – 10:00am to 12:00pm (Noon) EDT\nRegistration: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/5559433564188710926

SUMMARY:FoRRRwD Countermeasures: High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST) and Continuous Friction Measurement (CFM)
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nJason Hershock\, PennDOT\, will discuss the HFST experience in Pennsylvania including manual applications\, winter road maintenance\, local agency demonstrations\, and bundling of sites to reduce costs. Benefit-Cost analysis and CMF development will also be presented.\nAndy Vandel\, South Dakota DOT\, will discuss South Dakota’s application of HFST to target the over-representation of roadway departure crashes at horizontal curves with winter road conditions as a contributing factor.\nStephen Read\, Virginia DOT\, will provide an overview of Virginia’s experience with HFST and Edgar DeLeon\, Virginia Tech Transportation Institute\, will discuss the implementation of a Pavement Friction Management Program (PFMP) using Continuous Friction Measurement (CFM) for Virginia DOT.\n\n Registration: Participants must register in advance at https://collaboration.fhwa.dot.gov/dot/fhwa/WC/Lists/Seminars/DispForm.aspx?ID=2353 \nSpace is limited. Please register as soon as possible. \nPlease Note: Non-USDOT employees who have never participated in an FHWA webinar must create an account at https://collaboration.fhwa.dot.gov/FBA/MembershipRequest.aspx in order to register for this webinar. \n**FHWA recommends using Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer for optimal registration experience.**

SUMMARY:NJLTAP – Common Sense Solutions for Intersection Problems
DESCRIPTION:This will be day 3-day (2 hours each session) program.  Participants are welcome to join any of the three parts however a certificate of attendance will only be issued to those that attend the full session on all days. \nMake sure to sign in with your full name to receive credit. \nLog on instructions for all three sessions will be in your registration confirmation. If you do not receive immediate confirmation\, please check your SPAM folder or email barbara.morgan@soe.rutgers.edu \nThis course provides participants with (1) a basic understanding of intersection safety issues\, (2) “how to” information for common safety tasks and low cost safety improvements that do not require an engineered design\, and (3) background information on safety tasks that do not require an engineer. This workshop also outlines areas where non-engineers can assist traffic engineers in the safety process\, and help them to understand when an engineer needs to be consulted to make a safety related change to an intersection. \nRegister at: https://cait.rutgers.edu/event/njltap-common-sense-solutions-for-intersection-problems/

SUMMARY:Tort Liability & Risk Management for Local Public Agencies / Webinar Series Course (Part 3)
DESCRIPTION:This course\, which is presented as a 4-part webinar series\, provides an overview of the legal duties and responsibilities of roadway personnel. A key objective of this training is to use the lessons learned from tort claims filed against road agencies to develop countermeasures and risk management strategies to enhance traffic safety and reduce crashes. Key legal concepts relating to the liability of roadway agencies are reviewed from a risk management standpoint. \nCommon types of claims/lawsuits brought against street departments and roadway agencies are identified through examples and case studies. Risk management principles aimed at 1) reducing and preventing crashes and claims and 2) helping agencies defend claims will be highlighted. Practical risk management activities will also be identified. \nRegistration:\nhttps://register.gotowebinar.com/register/5518217270354675724
