SUMMARY:Traffic Signal Design and Operation Webinar
DESCRIPTION:There is a need to understand that the congestion and delays that exist on our streets and roadways can be better managed with a thorough understanding of effective traffic signal timing and optimization. Well-developed\, designed\, implemented\, maintained\, and operated traffic signal control projects are essential to this process. Engineering tools are available to design\, optimize\, analyze\, and simulate traffic flow. This course addresses the application of the “Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices” (MUTCD) to intersection displays\, as well as signal timing\, computerized traffic signal systems\, control strategies\, integrated systems\, traffic control simulation\, and optimization software. The course is divided into two primary parts: Traffic Signal Timing and Design\, and Traffic Signal Systems. \nThe Webinar is targeted to Traffic engineering personnel from State\, Federal\, and local agencies involved in planning\, design\, operation or maintenance of traffic signals or traffic signal systems. The course will not assume any prior knowledge of computers and thus will describe the theory of operation and the manner in which it can be applied to traffic signal controls. \nWhen you complete the course\, you will be able to: \n\nList the steps required to plan\, design\, and implement a signalized intersection\nDevise an appropriate data collection plan for planning\, designing\, and operating a signalized intersection\nPerform a warrant analysis using the MUTCD warrants\, including local policies\nDesign basic phasing of the intersection – which movements will get a separate phase\, and how they are numbered\nCalculate signal timing at the design stage for both actuated and coordinated operational strategies\, including pedestrian clearance intervals\nDetermine location of signal displays\nSelect signal-related signs and pavement markings\, including turning-movement signs and advance warning signs\n\nRegistration:https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=wF36DW8DFUaZ5JSvgi8rhM2DKVY1dbtIqCvlfncowdhUNjNLS1pJVUtFMzhSUEdDM0ZSODFYNERTQS4u

SUMMARY:Federal Highway Administration’s Every Day Counts Executive Session
DESCRIPTION:The Every Day Counts (EDC) program has changed the way we engage people\, products and processes. For nearly 10 years\, FHWA has worked with our stakeholders and partners to achieve tangible successes for the highway community\, and the Americans who travel our roads every day.  If you’re already familiar with EDC innovations\, then you know that real game changers come from this program.  For example\, in EDC 3-4\, the deployment of e-Construction helped lead to savings on average of $40\,000 per project and 1.78 hours of staff time per day.  Currently\, 46 states are using e-Construction and enjoying these benefits as a result.  And that is just one example. \nOn September 23rd at 2:30 pm EDT\, FHWA will be hosting a virtual meeting to provide an introduction to the EDC-6 initiatives.  All FHWA staff are welcome to participate in this event\, and we encourage you to share this invitation with your STIC members\, transportation partners\, and stakeholders.  Additional information and factsheets on these initiatives can be found on the EDC web site. \nRegister here!

SUMMARY:Designing Pedestrian Facilities for Accessibility – online
DESCRIPTION:Facilities in the public right-of-way (including walkways\, ramps\, curb ramps and landings\, crosswalks\, and pedestrian overpasses and underpasses) must be designed\, constructed and maintained to serve all users. To meet the needs of all users\, those involved with designing\, building and maintaining infrastructure need a clear understanding of the wide range of abilities that occur within the population and the challenges in the public right-of-way faced by persons with disabilities. This course will identify applicable laws\, regulations\, guidelines and standards pertaining to accessibility for persons with disabilities. Requirements for ensuring accessibility in existing facilities versus work in new construction and alternations will be discussed. Design elements necessary for achieving accessibility in the public right-of-way will be reviewed. Best practices will be identified. A detailed handout will be provided\, including resources on accessibility. Specific Topics to Be Covered Include: • Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) and Public Rights-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines: Laws and Regulations • Legal Requirements • Pedestrian Characteristics • Pedestrian Access Route (PAR) • Curb Ramps and Other Transitions • Detectable Warnings • Pedestrian Crossings • Street Furniture and Parking • Work Zones and Maintenance • Accessible Pedestrian Signals The target audience for this workshop is local\, state and private sector personnel with responsibility for designing\, constructing and maintaining facilities in the public right—of-way. These include engineers (municipal and consulting)\, MPO staff\, technicians\, public works directors\, street supervisors\, crew leaders\, landscape architects and contractors. \nPDH – 6 hours \nA Zoom link to attend will be sent the day before the class starts. \nTo earn Advanced Road Scholar Credit you must attend all three online sessions. \nAugust 26th\, 10am-12pm \nAugust 26th\, 10am-12pm \nAugust 26th\, 10am-12pm \nhttps://commerce.cashnet.com/NCSUITRE?ITEMCODE=ITRE-LTAPDPO

SUMMARY:High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST)
DESCRIPTION:The Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) is a core federal aid program that utilizes a data driven process to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes on all roads across the county. Kentucky’s HSIP program utilizes data to analyze Kentucky’s roadway network for crash locations that experience more wet pavement collisions than similar roadways across the state. High Friction Surface projects are then created for these identified locations across the state. Some Local roads are included in this analysis. In 2019\, a local road received high friction surface through the HSIP program. This webinar includes an overview of the HFST program and project details from Daviess County. \nRegister at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hfsthsip-tickets-106394484768

SUMMARY:NJLTAP – Common Sense Solutions for Intersection Problems
DESCRIPTION:This will be day 3-day (2 hours each session) program.  Participants are welcome to join any of the three parts however a certificate of attendance will only be issued to those that attend the full session on all days. \nMake sure to sign in with your full name to receive credit. \nLog on instructions for all three sessions will be in your registration confirmation. If you do not receive immediate confirmation\, please check your SPAM folder or email barbara.morgan@soe.rutgers.edu \nThis course provides participants with (1) a basic understanding of intersection safety issues\, (2) “how to” information for common safety tasks and low cost safety improvements that do not require an engineered design\, and (3) background information on safety tasks that do not require an engineer. This workshop also outlines areas where non-engineers can assist traffic engineers in the safety process\, and help them to understand when an engineer needs to be consulted to make a safety related change to an intersection. \nRegister at: https://cait.rutgers.edu/event/njltap-common-sense-solutions-for-intersection-problems/

\nRegister at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hfsthsip-tickets-106393604134
