SUMMARY:Alternative Interchange & Intersection Design: Case Studies
DESCRIPTION:This hybrid online class will combine both live instruction and independent online work that you will complete during the day.  Independent work will include quizzes\, readings\, videos and short assignments.  Access to a computer with a webcam (either a camera that is built into your laptop or one that connects via USB)\, a reliable internet connection and a workspace that is free from distraction and noise will set you up for success.  \nThe unconventional intersection and interchange workshop offered the day prior to this lab will cover the fundamentals of unconventional intersections and interchanges in a lecture format.  The purpose of the follow-up laboratory is to provide attendees the chance to work through hands-on examples and apply the principles discussed at the workshop.  The lab will begin with a review of the tools on hand to analyze intersection and interchange alternatives.  Then\, each attendee will work on one surface-street intersection\, one grade-separated intersection example\, and one interchange example.  Attendees will work together in small teams to develop potential solutions and then will discuss their potential solutions with the larger group.  Cases examined during the lab are drawn from the ones that the instructor has worked on at the NCDOT; the cases are meant to be challenging\, with no easy answers\, but not impossible.  By the end of the lab attendees should have the skills and confidence to tackle their own challenging intersection and interchange projects.

SUMMARY:Implementing a Road Safety Plan
DESCRIPTION:A LRSP cannot reach the goal of reducing traffic related fatalities and serious injuries if it is not implemented. Recognizing the challenges State\, local\, Tribal and regional agencies face\, this report\, Implementing a Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) provides guidance and examples of how to successfully address and accomplish LRSP implementation. \nThis report developed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) details steps to successfully implement a plan. A large number of States and local agencies have developed the plan\, but find it difficult to go from development to implementation. The report provides the strategies several states and local agencies have used to address these challenges and overcome barriers to successfully implement their plan and achieve positive reductions in traffic related fatalities and serious injuries. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Alternative Interchange & Intersection Design
DESCRIPTION:This hybrid online class will combine both live instruction and independent online work that you will complete during the day.  Independent work will include quizzes\, readings\, videos and short assignments.  Access to a computer with a webcam (either a camera that is built into your laptop or one that connects via USB)\, a reliable internet connection and a workspace that is free from distraction and noise will set you up for success.  \nMany arterials and interchanges are terribly congested\, and conventional measures offer little prospect for relief.  Unconventional designs offer some potential for relatively inexpensive improvements to those congested arterials and interchanges.  These are designs that have been used in some state or have been researched but have not been placed into widespread use.  Examples include the superstreets (RCUTs\, j-turns) being installed in North Carolina\, the median u-turns that Michigan has used for many years\, and the diverging diamond interchanges that have recently opened in over 20 states.  In the right place with the details designed well\, an unconventional design can deliver safety\, efficiency\, environmental\, and cost benefits to motorists and transportation agencies. \nThe purpose of this workshop will be to discuss the best of the unconventional intersection and interchange options in some depth.  We will explore the history\, planning\, design\, and operation of the major designs.  By the end of the workshop attendees should understand which design has a realistic chance to help in a particular spot.

SUMMARY:Roadway Conditions
DESCRIPTION:A systemic approach to safety involves widely implemented improvements based on high-risk roadway features correlated with specific severe crash types. The approach helps agencies broaden their traffic safety efforts at little extra cost. A system-based approach acknowledges crashes alone are not always sufficient to determine what countermeasures to implement\, particularly on low volume local and rural roadways where crash densities are lower\, and in many urban areas where there are conflicts between vehicles and vulnerable road users (pedestrians\, bicyclists\, and motorcyclists). This webinar will review how to identify these roads. \nRegister at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/roadway-conditions-tickets-106386853944

SUMMARY:Work Zone Safety Awareness for Road Departments
DESCRIPTION:This course\, similar to our Work Zone Safety Awareness Program\, is specifically being offered to New Jersey municipal and county public works and utilities participants who require an overview of working safely in the roadway. As new or veteran employees enter or re-enter the public works profession\, they are frequently required to set up short-term work zones or are assigned to long-term projects. There are no allowances for errors when working next to traffic\, so it is important for personnel to have a solid understanding of work zone safety compliance with the national MUTCD standards. Also\, the roles of workers and enforcement personnel at work sites\, differences between NJDOT and local projects\, and legal responsibilities in work zones will be addressed during this program. \nIntended Audience: Individuals who are performing maintenance\, construction\, or traffic control on municipal roadways including: public works employees\, and street superintendents. \nLog on instructions will be in your registration confirmation. If you do not receive immediate\nconfirmation\, please check your SPAM folder or email barbara.morgan@soe.rutgers.edu

SUMMARY:Ins and Outs of the OH-1 - Ohio’s Crash Reporting Form Webinar
DESCRIPTION:What information is included on Ohio’s crash reporting form? Why would you want to know? The OH-1 is an important key for transportation safety professionals as it provides the data which can be ‘mined’ for information on your roadways – where are crashes happening\, what was listed by the responding officer as the primary and any other contributing factors to the crash\, and other key facts to be considered when seeking to enhance roadway safety. Also learn the difference between the levels of information which will be made available on an OH-1 based on the crash’s severity. \nThe presenter will be Derek Troyer\, P.E.\, of ODOT’s Highway Safety Team.\nDate / Time: Wednesday\, June 10th \nPlease register to participate in the webinar at:\nhttps://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/9048647951411323663

\nRegister at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/roadway-conditions-tickets-106389425636
