SUMMARY:Project Bundling: Planning and Capital Programming
DESCRIPTION:Advanced project bundling consists of planning and awarding similar projects to leverage all economies of scale throughout project delivery\, while also achieving important program goals.\nProject bundling isn’t new\, so why are the techniques promoted in Every Day Counts round five referred to as “advanced”? This webinar series will detail more effective methods collected from national best practices. Agencies that systematically implement this more advanced approach will optimize resources\, save delivery time\, and address system performance goals while keeping crucial transportation assets in good repair.\n\nRegister here

SUMMARY:Chainsaw Safety Training
DESCRIPTION:Chainsaws are widely used throughout the world.  They’re used in wide variety of industries such as commercial\, residential\, arborist\, road maintenance\, property maintenance\, ground operations\, and bucket truck operations.  Chainsaws can be very useful\, but it important to remember they can also be very dangerous.  Every year\, numerous chainsaw operators and bystanders are seriously injured and killed due to chainsaw accidents.  A large majority of these statistics could have been prevented by learning and practicing proper chainsaw safety.  During this presentation\, we will discuss chainsaw maintenance procedures\, how to select and properly use personal protective equipment\, and how to safely operate the chainsaw to reduce the risk of injury. \nRegister at: https://www.kyt2.com/resources/webinar-wednesday

SUMMARY:Pavement Preservation
DESCRIPTION:The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) supports and promotes the use of recycled materials in pavement construction in an effort to preserve the natural environment\, reduce waste\, and provide a cost effective material for constructing highways. Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) occurs when asphalt is removed during reconstruction and resurfacing and then is transported to facility for processing and reuse. In this session\, we will learn about RAP characteristics to include current practices\, early findings\, case studies\, design properties\, findings and recommendations from a recent FHWA report on Using Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement in Pavement-Preservation Treatments that was published in December 2020. \nRegister at: https://www.kyt2.com/resources/webinar-wednesday

SUMMARY:Excavating and Trench Safety (Half-Day Hybrid Online Class)
DESCRIPTION:This hybrid online class will combine both live instruction and independent online work that you will complete during the day.  Independent work will include quizzes\, readings\, videos and short assignments.  Access to a computer with a webcam (either a camera that is built into your laptop or one that connects via USB)\, a reliable internet connection and a workspace that is free from distraction and noise will set you up for success.  \nThis course covers basic set up of a backhoe work zone\, covering cones\, barricades\, caution tape and other barriers; positioning of essential and non-essential equipment and the declaring of minimum distances for separating machinery and pedestrians. In addition\, the course includes information about Carbon Monoxide hazards while working in a trench. The course also covers excavation issues including utility location\, shoring for backhoe proximity\, inclines\, surface stability\, safe backhoe travel areas and cave-in prevention. \nTrenching and excavation work presents serious hazards to all workers involved. Cave-ins pose the greatest risk and are more likely than some other excavation-related incidents to result in worker fatalities.  This course will address key steps towards preventing or greatly reducing the risk of cave-ins and other excavation related events.  The course accomplishes this by walking the student through ways to define soil classifications\, raising awareness about the importance of proper preplanning procedures\, identifying protective systems\, and describing sloping and benching options for different soil classifications. \nRegister here!

SUMMARY:Designing Pedestrian Facilities for Accessibility – online
DESCRIPTION:Facilities in the public right-of-way (including walkways\, ramps\, curb ramps and landings\, crosswalks\, and pedestrian overpasses and underpasses) must be designed\, constructed and maintained to serve all users. To meet the needs of all users\, those involved with designing\, building and maintaining infrastructure need a clear understanding of the wide range of abilities that occur within the population and the challenges in the public right-of-way faced by persons with disabilities. This course will identify applicable laws\, regulations\, guidelines and standards pertaining to accessibility for persons with disabilities. Requirements for ensuring accessibility in existing facilities versus work in new construction and alternations will be discussed. Design elements necessary for achieving accessibility in the public right-of-way will be reviewed. Best practices will be identified. A detailed handout will be provided\, including resources on accessibility. Specific Topics to Be Covered Include: • Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) and Public Rights-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines: Laws and Regulations • Legal Requirements • Pedestrian Characteristics • Pedestrian Access Route (PAR) • Curb Ramps and Other Transitions • Detectable Warnings • Pedestrian Crossings • Street Furniture and Parking • Work Zones and Maintenance • Accessible Pedestrian Signals \nThe target audience for this workshop is local\, state and private sector personnel with responsibility for designing\, constructing and maintaining facilities in the public right—of-way. These include engineers (municipal and consulting)\, MPO staff\, technicians\, public works directors\, street supervisors\, crew leaders\, landscape architects and contractors.\n \nPDH – 6 hours\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Engineering Ethics - Practical Applications
DESCRIPTION:Theory versus practice. Classroom versus real-world. Many times\, those tasked with following ethics laws\, standards or codes are given theoretical\, classroom type examples not applicable in the much more complex\, nuanced world we live and work in. \nJoin us in hosting Dean C. Ringle\, P.E.\, P.S. on February 11th for a presentation on how Engineering Ethics can and should be applied in the real world. Mr. Ringle is Executive Director of the County Engineers Association of Ohio (CEAO). Prior to joining CEAO\, he worked at the Franklin County Engineer’s Office for more than 36 years\, with the last 17 years serving as the Franklin County Engineer. He serves on the boards of the Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors\, the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying and the OSU Civil\, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering Advisory Board. \nRegister at: https://www.transportation.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/odot/programs/ltap/all-events/engineering-ethics-practical-applications
