SUMMARY:Self-Evaluations & Transition Plans and PROWAG Overview Webinar Series
DESCRIPTION:With the 30-year anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)\, it is critical that local governments recognize their obligation to upgrade streets\, sidewalks and facilities for accessibility. ADA requires that public agencies perform self-evaluations and prepare transition plans. The plans were to have been completed by July 26\, 1992 and be updated periodically. This webinar series examines the background to\, contents of and enforcement of the self-evaluation and transition plan requirements. Several landmark court cases are highlighted. A case study is presented to illustrate these items. Participants will leave the webinar series with a “To Do” list of next steps they need to take and a toolkit of helpful resources. \nCurrent criteria for accessible public rights-of-way including the pedestrian access route\, curb ramps and detectable warnings\, accessible pedestrian signals\, street furniture\, on-street parking and temporary traffic control requirements for pedestrians are also reviewed in the webinar. \nWednesday\, July 1\, 2020\n10:00 AM to 11:30 AM EDT\nRegistration: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/7319435019512583179 \nThursday\, July 2\, 2020\n10:00 AM to 11:30 AM EDT\nRegistration: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/2738655173430357771

SUMMARY:Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Course Webinar Series
DESCRIPTION:This course on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is part of the curriculum for ODOT’s Traffic Academy\, as administered by  the Office of Roadway Engineering and Office of Traffic Operations. It is intended to improve plan content\, organization\, and provide information on functionality of ITS devices. \nSuccessful completion of this ITS Traffic Academy course is a consultant prequalification requirement under the category of ITS Design and Operations. If an individual is currently ODOT prequalified for ITS Design\, it is not a requirement to take this new course to maintain prequalification. The Department does feel that consultants and project design would benefit from taking this course every five years as standards and content change. \nThis course is intended for individuals who have the Traffic Signal Design prequalification and are seeking the ITS Design prequalification.\ \nRegistration Information – There is no registration fee for this training. The dates and times for this free webinar series are as follows:\n• June 23\, 2020 – 2:00pm to 3:30pm EDT\n• June 25\, 2020 – 2:00pm to 3:30pm EDT\n• June 30\, 2020 – 2:00pm to 3:30pm EDT\n• July 2\, 2020 – 2:00pm to 3:30pm EDT \nPlease use the following link to register:\nhttps://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/2755928501525725709\nParticipants must attend and successfully complete all of the webinar sessions\, along with the online test\, in order to receive course credit.

SUMMARY:ADA In Temporary Traffic Control
DESCRIPTION:After a brief discussion of the relevant legal authorities (ADA\, PROWAG\, MUTCD)\, the workshop describes the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities as they travel in the built environment. The basic requirements of the Pedestrian Access Route are reviewed\, including width\, protruding objects\, cross slope\, grade\, surfaces and curb ramps/detectable warnings. The requirements for the alternate pedestrian access route are reviewed. Tools to minimize the impacts of construction/maintenance/utility operations on pedestrians will be discussed\, namely: 1) phasing of construction\, 2) utilizing detailed plans\, 3) effective signing/communication and 4) effective barriers/barricades. The session will conclude with an interactive review/discussion of various work zone scenarios and best practices. \nUpon completion of the class\, participants will be able to: 1) assess a TTC zone set-up for compliance with ADA/MUTCD and 2) design a compliant TTC zone. \nA Zoom link to attend will be sent the day before the class starts. \nTo earn Advanced Road Scholar Credit you must attend the whole session. \nJuly 8\, 10am-12pm \nhttps://commerce.cashnet.com/NCSUITRE?ITEMCODE=ITRE-LTAPADO

SUMMARY:Guardrail 101 - New Standards\, Crash Testing\, and Installation
DESCRIPTION:We all know that guardrail can be installed incorrectly\, and\, as a result\, can seriously injure the users of our roadways.  In an effort to make guardrail installations and technology more consistent and up to date with today’s vehicle fleet\, the Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) was developed by the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO).  MASH is the new standard for roadside hardware.  This presentation will outline the changes that MASH introduced\, some of the new guardrail hardware that meets these new requirements\, as well as some common installation errors and how to fix them. \nRegister at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/guardrail-tickets-106390587110

SUMMARY:Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) Intersections Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Motorists\, pedestrians\, and bicyclists face greater mobility challenges and safety risks at intersections as traffic volumes grow and congestion worsens. Agencies need safer\, more balanced designs that keep people moving. Innovative intersection designs offer many safety and operational benefits\, and are being built more often because they can deliver more for less. In the case of U-Turn-based intersection designs\, certain movements that are higher risk – such as direct left-turns – are modified to a combination of right-turns and U-turns. The Restricted\nCrossing U-Turn (RCUT) design has proven to be a very successful strategy to reduce the number and severity of i ntersection crashes and improve traffic operations. \nThis webinar will cover:\n– What is an RCUT? / How do they work?\n– Why are they advantageous?\n– Where are they applicable?\n– Are they beneficial for pedestrians and bicyclists?\n– What are some fundamental design considerations for RCUTs?\n– Do RCUTs require special signs or pavement markings? \nRegistration: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/3806304054188206350

SUMMARY:Chainsaw Safety
DESCRIPTION:Chainsaws are widely used throughout the world.  They’re used in wide variety of industries such as commercial\, residential\, arborist\, road maintenance\, property maintenance\, ground operations\, and bucket truck operations.  Chainsaws can be very useful\, but it important to remember they can also be very dangerous.  Every year\, numerous chainsaw operators and bystanders are seriously injured and killed due to chainsaw accidents.  A large majority of these statistics could have been prevented by learning and practicing proper chainsaw safety.  During this presentation\, we will discuss chainsaw maintenance procedures\, how to select and properly use personal protective equipment\, and how to safely operate the chainsaw to reduce the risk of injury. \nRegister at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/chainsaw-safety-training-tickets-111807246484
