SUMMARY:Traffic Signal Design and Operation Webinar
DESCRIPTION:There is a need to understand that the congestion and delays that exist on our streets and roadways can be better managed with a thorough understanding of effective traffic signal timing and optimization. Well-developed\, designed\, implemented\, maintained\, and operated traffic signal control projects are essential to this process. Engineering tools are available to design\, optimize\, analyze\, and simulate traffic flow. This course addresses the application of the “Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices” (MUTCD) to intersection displays\, as well as signal timing\, computerized traffic signal systems\, control strategies\, integrated systems\, traffic control simulation\, and optimization software. The course is divided into two primary parts: Traffic Signal Timing and Design\, and Traffic Signal Systems. \nThe Webinar is targeted to Traffic engineering personnel from State\, Federal\, and local agencies involved in planning\, design\, operation or maintenance of traffic signals or traffic signal systems. The course will not assume any prior knowledge of computers and thus will describe the theory of operation and the manner in which it can be applied to traffic signal controls. \nWhen you complete the course\, you will be able to: \n\nList the steps required to plan\, design\, and implement a signalized intersection\nDevise an appropriate data collection plan for planning\, designing\, and operating a signalized intersection\nPerform a warrant analysis using the MUTCD warrants\, including local policies\nDesign basic phasing of the intersection – which movements will get a separate phase\, and how they are numbered\nCalculate signal timing at the design stage for both actuated and coordinated operational strategies\, including pedestrian clearance intervals\nDetermine location of signal displays\nSelect signal-related signs and pavement markings\, including turning-movement signs and advance warning signs\n\nRegistration:https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=wF36DW8DFUaZ5JSvgi8rhM2DKVY1dbtIqCvlfncowdhUNjNLS1pJVUtFMzhSUEdDM0ZSODFYNERTQS4u

SUMMARY:The Elephant\, The Ostrich\, and You: Taming the Wild Performance Management Process
DESCRIPTION:Employee appraisals\, evaluations\, or feedback- whatever you call it\, if it feels like there’s an elephant in the room or an ostrich with its head in the sand\, the process might be broken. Let’s revisit the principles and best practices for ongoing\, genuine\, and meaningful employee feedback and performance coaching for your employees\, your team\, and your organization. Good coaching conversations drive employee productivity\, engagement and success\, and that in turn helps your entire organization. \nIn this 90 minute session we’ll talk about the best practices in performance management and coaching\, including the structure of an evaluation\, what valuable feedback looks like and how to capture it\, when to have performance discussions\, and how to lead future-thinking and thoughtful performance reviews. We’ll also talk about the difficult conversations every manager may encounter\, and how those uncomfortable conversations are critical to success. Let’s it\, because we all like to know how we’re doing\, and no one likes an unpleasant surprise. Regular ongoing and honest feedback is important for a successful organization. Let’s talk about how to do it right\, and what to avoid. \nNo cost to attend. 1.5 Supervisory Roads Scholar hour \nRegister here!

SUMMARY:FoRRRwD: Reducing Rural Roadway Departures
DESCRIPTION:Rural roadway departures make up a third of U.S. traffic fatalities—about 30 people a day. The Every Day Counts round five (EDC-5) initiative\, Focus on Reducing Rural Roadway Departures (FoRRRwD)\, features four pillars: Addressing All Public Roads\, Systemic Approach\, Safety Action Plans\, and Proven Countermeasures. This course provides participants with some tools for addressing roadway departure crashes. Topics covered in this course include a discussion of engineering countermeasures as well as implementation using the systemic approach. \nUpon completion of this course\, participants will: \n\nDescribe the rural roadway departure crash problem\nIdentify the three objectives used to combat the problem\nIdentify proven safety countermeasures to mitigate roadway departures\nRecognize the crash reduction potential for the individual countermeasures\nUnderstand why the systemic approach is critical to reduce roadway departures.\nIdentify risk factors that are commonly used in the Systemic Approach to reduce rural roadway departures.\nDemonstrate the use of the Louisiana Roadway Departure Implementation Plan\n\nThis course is provided free of charge. \nRegister here!

SUMMARY:Using Cold Hard Facts: Data-Driven Winter Maintenance
DESCRIPTION:Join Scott Kinmond as we discuss how tracking your winter maintenance efforts and costs can help with future planning\, improve efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance activities\, save time\, and save money! Discussion will include which data points to track\, as well as various methods of maintaining the information. \nNH Salt Applicator certified individuals- this is a GSP Refresher approved workshop! Register for the Zoom meeting and UNH T2 will send you an invoice shortly after (private and contractor workshop rate $50\, no cost for municipalities). \nIMPORTANT NOTICE TO MUNICIPALITIES REGARDING GREEN SNOWPRO TRAINING AND SALT APPLICATOR CERTIFICATION\nThe State of New Hampshire does not have authority to certify municipal salt applicators per the current statute wording (see Statute 489–Salt Applicator Certification Option C:1 Definitions) where as “Commercial applicator” means any individual who applies or supervises others who apply salt\, but shall not include municipal or state employees. Although NH is unable to issue certificates to municipal employees at this time\, the NH Department of Environmental Services (DES) is working on new legislation that would incorporate a voluntary program to include municipal employees. Meanwhile\, municipalities are encouraged to actively participate in training opportunities such as Green SnowPro through UNH T2\, in order to employ best management practices in snow and ice management in their communities. \nGreen SnowPro classes do qualify for Roads Scholar credits with UNH T2. \nhttps://unh.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwldeirqTwvEtBoytBrfe-UTTD3TrI4hrtX

SUMMARY:NJLTAP – Grant Management for Federal-aid Projects (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Are you the recipient of Federal-aid funds through the New Jersey Department of Transportation Division of Local Aid and Economic Development? NJDOT and/or the Metropolitan Planning Organizations currently administer these Federal Aid Programs: \n\nLocal Lead\nTransportation Enhancements\nSafe Routes to School\nEmergency Relief\nTransportation Alternatives\nLocal Safety/High Risk Rural Roads\n\nThis course is designed for recipients of these types of grants. The effective and efficient “management” of the funds received from such a grant is critical to insuring future eligibility and reimbursement. This course highlights for the administrator and grant coordinator key requirements and responsibilities that must be met as a condition to the grant. \nThe course will delve into the basic financial\, administrative\, and project related requirements including practical means of satisfying these requirements in an uncomplicated manner. Common problem areas\, potential solutions and avoidance measures will be a part of the group discussion. This workshop’s objective is to greatly enhance the grant recipient’s performance and eligibility for successful\, full reimbursement of funding. \nRegister at https://cait.rutgers.edu/event/njltap-grant-management-october/
