SUMMARY:Bicycles and Pedestrian: Meeting the Needs
DESCRIPTION:Many communities in the United States were not designed for pedestrian and bicycle travel. However\, today walkability and bikeabilityare important for active transportation and are indicators of a livable community. The objective of this workshop is to equip participants with information on designing and maintaining safer\, more comfortable\, accessible communities so that walking is a viable transportation choice for everyone\, including seniors\, children and people with visual\, mobility and other disabilities and that bicycling is a viable transportation choice for people of all ages.The class provides current information on the design\,operation and maintenance of successful pedestrian and bicycle facilities. Emphasis is placed on the importance of maintaining accessibility and MUTCD compliance while at the same time encouraging innovation.
